The policies and procedures outlined in this document do not pertain to classes taught through local colleges and universities. See the specific college or university for their policies and procedures.
Purpose of Our Tax Class:
The purpose of our Continuing Education is for anyone desiring more knowledge of the tax & tax preparation. It is designed to teach skills necessary to prepare personal federal income tax as well as limited knowledge of SC or GA requirements. It is for professionals seeking continuing education in basic income tax preparation, individuals seeking knowledge for self-preparation, or individuals desiring the skills necessary for full or part-time employment in the tax preparation industry.
Our Educational & Occupational Objectives:
- To educate people about fundamentals of tax preparation
- To provide growth and continuing education to Jackson Hewitt Employees or other independent firms
- To identify potential new employees for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service
Courses Offered:
See the information contained in this brochure, or www.UpstateTax.com, for a complete description of the classes that are being offered. In general it will be 1) Standard Classroom, 2) On-Line, or 3) Computerized Classroom.
Facilities:
Our facilities in South Carolina are provided by Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC. In Georgia we are in a single level storefront with available classroom space approximately 1200 square feet. Our classroom equipment may include a dry erase board, transparency projector, a PC projection unit, Personal Computers, and a printer. Mastery of the tax preparation by computer is not required for Volumes 1, 2, or 3 of the Jackson Hewitt Tax Classroom Course. �Computer use and fundamentals of keyboarding is required for On-Line students or Computerized Course.
Admission Requirements:
Any person interested in learning fundamentals of income tax preparation is eligible for admission to the Jackson Hewitt Tax Class. A registration form can be completed on line at www.UpstateTax.com. Fees for the On-Line Course must be paid in full before beginning. Fees for Classroom or Computerized courses must be paid to Tri-County Tech in SC or Jackson Hewitt in GA before beginning the first class. No prerequisite college or high school courses are required. Basic computer skills are required for the computerized course.
Policies on Tardiness and Absences:
Classroom students are expected to attend all classes on time. Tardiness limits learning. Attendance records will be maintained for each student. �Absences may be made up at another time or day and / or in another location. Students that miss class are responsible for material covered and homework assigned.
Homework:
Each student is responsible for completing homework, lab assignments, progress assessments, and tests. Homework is used to track the students understanding and is collected for grading or required to be completed on-line. Lab work is approximately 25 hours of additional computerized self-paced work. Students who fall behind in homework assignments will be able to obtain the instructors help to make up the work at the instructors discretion.
Policies on Conduct:
All students are assumed to be adult ladies and gentlemen. Any student who disrupts the class and impairs the learning of others could be expelled at the instructor�s sole discretion. Anyone denied readmission to classes will not be granted a refund. Tri-County Tech�s policies apply to courses taught at Tri-County Tech.
Termination:
Students may be terminated for bad conduct as determined by the instructor. �Terminated students may be readmitted to future-year classes with new payment of tuition & fees.
Books & Material Fees:
Fees for the books and material for classes are due before attending the first class. The instruction books or workbooks are the students and may serve as a reference. A discount may be available to students who register and pay in full early. Details may be found on www.UpstateTax.com, or by contacting your Jackson Hewitt office or Tri-County Tech.
Standards of Progress:
1) Grading System: A grading system is in place to allow instructors and students to track their performance. The instructor uses the grading system to identify students who need extra instruction help and to identify students who perform well.
2) Minimum Test Scores to be considered for employment with Jackson Hewitt is 78%. Students obtaining grade averages over 70% will be awarded certificates of completion.
3) Academic Probation Status: It is not our policy to place any student on academic probation for low grades. Instead, students who have difficulty are encouraged to ask the instructor for help. Students should be able to demonstrate completion of homework assignments as well as class attendance.
4) Students are informed of their progress through 15 minute quizzes as well as grading of examinations or on-line feedback.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
For SC students, contact Tri-County Tech at the place of registration and fee payment. For any GA courses once the students begins, attends the first class, or receives his / her text books there will be no refunds. Refunds for course materials (books) may be requested in the office. Books must be unopened. No refunds are available for the online course. All refunds will not include Upstate Tax administrative charges.
Employment and Job Placement Assistance:
Employment with Jackson Hewitt Tax Services may be available to students who satisfactorily complete the Jackson Hewitt Tax Course with a B average or higher, but it is not guaranteed. We do not offer job placement assistance or references with other preparation companies. �
Student Complaints:
Any student with a complaint against Jackson Hewitt Tax Services should make a reasonable effort to obtain satisfaction from the tax school instructor. In SC contact Tri-County Tech. In GA if a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached with the instructor or the local Jackson Hewitt Manager, the student should contact Jackson Hewitt Customer Service Manager at (877) 476-3353.
Course Certificates & Credit:
A certificate will be presented to each student who successfully completes any of our tax courses with a grade of D or better. Students who wish to receive credit for their internships must seek approval from an academic department. Most departments will award up to three credits for an internship. Each department establishes its own criteria and requirements for such credits. To apply for the Jackson Hewitt Internship Program, students must summit the following:
- Jackson Hewitt Tax School Application Form.
- Two resumes printed on white paper.
- College Referral Form
Jackson Hewitt Tax Service does not offer College credits or make any claims that credits for its tax courses can be transferred. The Intern Program is available to those students that qualify with their respective college or university.
